Hanine (Tuesday 2/9/2003)
Lebanese singer Hanine, backed by seven Cuban musicians, performs a fusion
of Arab and Cuban music, including the best of Asmahan, Fareed Al Atrash,
and Sayyed Darwish, flavored with salsa, cha cha, son, and other Latin
American rhythms. The group, Hanine y son Cubanos, was put together by
Producer Michel Elfteriades, who wanted to create “a mixture of oriental
and Cuban music that would be known as Arabo-Cuban.” He hired the best
Cuban musicians, including lead singer Roman Diaz, as well as Hanine, a
smart, beautiful and talented female lawyer and graduate of Lebanon’s
National Conservatory of Music (voice and oud). Her album, Hanine y son
Cubanos, broke all sales records. Hanine has participated in the Byblos
International Festival and the Batroun and Raifoun festivals in Lebanon,
as well as the opening of Dubai’s Media City, Al-Medina Festival in
Tunisia, and the Miss Europe Pageant 2002. |
