Souk Ukaz is a multidisciplinary cultural market of ideas and experiences held
in Amman - Jordan that comprises of artistic, educational, socioeconomic and
networking activities.
Why is it carried out?
The mission of Souk Ukaz is to stimulate creativity and to promote cultural
cooperation between the Arab World and the world at large.
What does it seek to achieve? Souk Ukaz aims to fulfill the following
objectives:

Sustain cultural exchanges and
stimulate an awareness and understanding of Arab cultures through artistic
and cultural activities.

Facilitate dialogue and encourage
collaboration among Arab artists and other professionals in the cultural
sector, amongst themselves and between them and their international
counterparts.

cultural goods and stimulate investment in the sector.

How is it carried
out?
The program of Souk Ukaz includes the following components:
Performing Arts
Souk Ukaz curates music dance and theater performances aimed at creating
global exposure to local, regional and international artists.
Visual Arts
Souk Ukaz invites a host of celebrity and emerging artists to exhibit and
display their works. Themes have centered on art expression in the Arab
Diaspora.
Media
Souk Ukaz seeks to enhance a positive image of Arabs in Western media and
encourages co-productions. Through workshops, seminars and pitching of
projects that bring together Arab and international media representatives to
meet and network and exchange ideas, Souk Ukaz hopes to foster a better
understanding of Arab cultures.
Conferences/Forums; Creating a Bridge of Understanding
Souk Ukaz organizes a series of conferences and workshops that increase
networking opportunities for delegates and creates an enabling atmosphere to
discuss and establish linkages between culture and development.
Tradeshows; Enlivening Traditional Crafts
Souk Ukaz promotes traditional crafts, and stimulates entrepreneurship by
organizing tradeshows to connect local craftspeople and international buyers. |
