Personal Profile/Organization Background
Since 1998, Garry Neil has worked as the Executive Director of the International Network for Cultural Diversity (www.incd.net), a global network of NGOs, artists, cultural producers and others working to counter the adverse effects of economic globalization on world cultures. More than 300 organizations in 71 countries belong to the INCD. Mr. Neil has written extensively about how trade agreements are limiting the sovereignty of governments to implement cultural and policies and regulate the media. Mr. Neil has more than 25 years experience in Canada’s cultural sector. After a 15-year career with the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists, the union representing Canadian performers, writers and broadcast journalists, Mr. Neil formed Neil Craig Associates in 1992 to provide consulting services to firms, associations and others with an interest in cultural policy. For three years, Mr. Neil was also Executive Director of the Association of Canadian Publishers, a position he left in 1995 to work full-time as a consultant. Mr. Neil works extensively in Canada and internationally and is presently the Chair of the Dancer Transition Resource Centre.
