Shiu Margaret (Ms) Director Bamboo Curtain International (Taipei) Having studied economic development at UC Berkeley, Calif. Ms Shiu has worked as an economist before changing career path to the arts in 1980, participating in various national and international exhibitions. However, in the last decade, Ms Shiu witnessed the constraints on the development of the arts in Taiwan. She thus besides being a visual artist, she added the role of art and culture advocate, mainly promoting international cultural exchanges and urban regeneration, especially reuse of space as culture venues. As the director of both, the alternative space Bamboo Curtain Studio, and the research unit, Bamboo Culture International, she has activated many issues on artist’s role in cultural, social and environmental development and has networked with various international art organizations for research and collaborations, especially those within Asia. |
